Frame & Frame

Movies

A running log of films I've seen and the ones still queued up. Notes are short, opinionated, and revised over time.

The Princess Bride

Rob Reiner

Romance / Adventure · 1987

A fairy-tale-within-a-frame-story about true love, swordfights, and revenge. Witty, self-aware, and surprisingly tender. The kind of film where every line has become a quotation, but it still works because it earns every one of them.

Dead Poets Society

Peter Weir

Drama · 1989

A New England prep school, an unconventional English teacher, and the idea that poetry is dangerous because it makes you feel things. Robin Williams's most quietly powerful performance. Inspired the split-flap typography on this site's homepage.

Tenet

Christopher Nolan

Sci-Fi / Action · 2020

Nolan's most divisive film. A spy thriller that operates on inverted entropy, where bullets travel backward and a temporal pincer movement is a real strategic concept. Watch it twice. Then watch it again.

Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan

Biographical / Drama · 2023

Three hours on the physicist who built the bomb, structured around two hearings decades apart. Cillian Murphy disappears into the role. The Trinity test sequence is the most controlled moment of dread put to film in years.

Mickey 17

Bong Joon-ho

Sci-Fi / Comedy · 2025

Bong Joon-ho's first film since Parasite. Robert Pattinson plays an 'Expendable' — a disposable worker who is cloned fresh each time he dies on a deep-space colonization mission. Darkly funny and pointedly critical of labor, disposability, and who gets to decide whose life is replaceable.

On the List

Project Hail Mary

Phil Lord, Christopher Miller

Sci-Fi · 2026

Adaptation of Andy Weir's novel about a lone astronaut who wakes up on a mission to save the sun, with no memory of how he got there. Ryan Gosling attached to star. The book is unhinged in the best way and the trailer has been promising.

Stories first, criticism second.
